Outdoor Activities

When referring to Outdoor activities it usually refers to activities done in nature away from society. It is true that some outdoor activities such as running and cycling are done in society.

Outdoor activities are very beneficial, they usually have goal directed activities which helps inspire individuals or groups. Some of these outdoor activities are: backpacking, canoeing, hiking, kayaking, and rafting. Water sports, snow sports, and horseback riding would also be categorised as an outdoor activity. These activities are mainly physical but are mentally, emotionally and spiritually rewarding. Outdoor activities may also be pursued for the purposes of finding peace in nature, enjoying life, and relaxing. They are alternatives to expensive forms of tourism. Outdoor activities are also frequently used as a medium in education and teambuilding.

Out door activities can be categorized in to 8 groups, these include:

  • Mountain activities .e.g. Rock climbing
  • Forest activities .e.g. Camping
  • Beach and sea activities .e.g. Scuba diving
  • Fresh water activities .e.g. Canoeing
  • Aero activities e.g. ballooning
  • Desert Activities e.g. Desert jeep safari
  • Family activities e.g. Theme park
  • Cultural and historical activities e.g. Metal detecting

Outdoor activities are overall a fun activity. There are plenty of organisations across the UK that offers outdoor activities. They are booked for leisure or parties such as hen, stag, and birthday. It can be used with companies and schools, to help them gain experience and team building; away from the work place. As with most activities, it entails many risks. A simple accident may create a dangerous situation that requires survival skills. However, given correct precautions, outdoor recreation can be enjoyable and safe.
